This was my personal challenge to be the "Main Monkey", at least in my own mind. ;) An impossible challenge, to say the least, but was a fun challenge nonetheless. I thought this would be a cool little experiment, and kind of a cool effect, and it negates the fact that I don't have mics for my acoustic set! I took the video footage of me playing by ear along with the full song and I substituted the audio track from my video with Neil's actual drum track (the audio you hear is Neil's actual drum only track, NOT my drums and cymbals - in case you can't tell - LOL!!!) to see where I was on, and where I was off. Using a positive spin, I don't "mess up", I only create "NEW parts", right?? Ha ha! I believe only fellow drummers can truly appreciate the effort put into this one - with the drum track completely isolated, it is quite easy to see if I'm on or off - no other instruments to "mask/hide" small mistakes/variations - hint, listen with headphones and you'll hear the wonderful ghost notes he puts in various sections (as hard as I tried, you'll notice I missed playing a few of them...). And, also for my fellow drummers, just listening to Neil's drums only track is ear candy enough, even if you don't bother watching me play along! This is probably as close, hit for hit, as I'll ever get one of Neil's pieces - I did several takes to try and get each and every bit covered (I still know of a few mistakes, again, based on what I hear in the track, and my inability to play my best ...
